The Ethiopian Sports Federation in North America has a rich history that stretches several years. This year, 2010, ESFNA will celebrate its 27th anniversary. From four teams in 1984 it has grown to 27 teams. ESFNA is thrilled to announce that in 2010 we will add one more team to our family. The last time teams were added was 2005. That year, St. Michael of DC area and Seattle Barro joined the Federation. We have no doubt that in the very near future, our member teams will grow to 30.
Over 700 players and coaches participate in our yearly tournament. The tournament has been held in 15 major cities in North America. We have invited over 40 notable Ethiopians as Guests of Honor.
Here you'll find information pertaining to the past events of ESFNA, including former guests of honor, venues, and cup winners.
Each year, ESFNA invites individuals that have excelled in sports in Ethiopia in the past. From soccer players to long distance runners that have made the proud nation even prouder. Besides sports figures, ESFNA also honors Ethiopians in the social and art field. If it were not for the invitation of ESFNA, most of these heroes would not have had the opportunity to visit America. Lately, we have also begun honoring individuals who have played significant role during the early years of ESFNA who happen to reside in America.
Below is the history of ESFNA's guest(s) of honor.
